Stephen M. Passen is a partner with Passen & Powell. Since 1977, Mr. Passen has focused exclusively on representing individuals and families in complex personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice and wrongful death cases.

Mr. Passen has secured multiple seven- and eight-figure verdicts and settlements for personal injury victims and their families. In one of his recent high-profile jury trials, Mr. Passen secured a jury verdict in excess of $19 million for a young boy who suffered a traumatic brain injury at a school operated by the archdiocese of Chicago. This verdict was recognized as one of the Top 100 Verdicts in the nation by the National Law Journal. Over the past decade, Mr. Passen has obtained over $50 million in verdicts and settlements for his clients.

Numerous professional organizations have recognized Mr. Passen as one of the top personal injury trial lawyers in Illinois. He was selected to the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States with fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers as members, as a result of his numerous jury verdicts and settlements in excess of a million dollars. He continues to receive the highest rating from his peers, which permits his name to appear in the Martindale Hubbell Peer Review Ratings as an “AV” rated attorney. Mr. Passen has also been selected to appear in Leading Lawyers, the National Directory of Who’s Who in Executive Professionals, Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Law, Strathmore’s Who’s Who, as well as the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. He has been recognized by Chicago Lawyer magazine as one of the “Top Personal Injury Lawyers in Illinois.” He has also been recognized as one of America’s Top 100 Attorneys.

Mr. Passen served for many years on the Board of Managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of The Society of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only group comprised of the top trial lawyers on both the plaintiff and defense bar. He has also served as a member of the Illinois State Bar Association Tort Law Section Council and the Illinois Trial Lawyer’s Association’s Civil Procedure Committee.

Mr. Passen earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. In addition to his general membership to the Illinois bar, he is a member of the Federal Trial Bar for the Northern District of Illinois.
