Fred began his career focusing on criminal defense.  He served as counsel in several murder cases, including a capital murder trial.  He also provided appellate assistance to death row inmates.  However, since the mid -1990’s his practice has been limited to civil litigation, primarily in the areas of construction defects, insurance bad faith, personal injury and wrongful death. He has been involved in more than 70 appeals to the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States.  He practices with William Acton and Troy Stafford, Derek Adler and Will DeVore.  Fred is married to Amy DeVore, has six children and two grandchildren.
